Final Blog

Over the course of this semester I don't know if I would say my writing has gotten all that much better.. because to start with I didn't have very good writing. But I have learned a lot of this semester. Coming into this class I hadn't taken a writing class since senior year of high school. When i was in high school I payed to take a college course from our local community college Herkimer county community college. It was taught in our high school by one of our 11th & 12th grade English teachers that was certified to teach us the material. This was not like AP English that a lot of high schools offer.. you don't have to pass the final or last exam to pass the class.. you just had to do well enough throughout the school year and you would pass. I think it was something like 100 a semester to take the full course, and if you passed it then you got the credit. So I came into college with 6 credits and it took care of both my CPN's that you would normally take here as a freshmen. I'm happy and not so happy that I took the course in high school.. I'm happy because everyone has said how hard CPN but I kind of wish I took it here because I've gone without taking any English courses.. and the course was soooo easy in high school. We didn't even do that much writing, it was more of a literature class, like reading the count of monte cristo and mitch albom books. I really did miss out on a lot of information by not taking it here at Cortland, and this class was really difficult for me because i thrown back into English again without even having that good of a base in it.
So overall I do think this class was good, I did learn a lot of stuff I had no idea about it was just difficult not having a good backround in college style writing.

Christmas Tree

Every year I look foward to getting the christmas tree with my dad, it used to be our whole family, but my mom always seems to be busy and my brother is a teenager and obviously too cool to do family things anymore, so now its just me and my dad. We usually wait until two weeks before christmas to get our tree and we get it from a local tree farm 15 minutes away from us.
My dad is so funny when picking out the tree because he looks them all over so carefully.. i really dont care, whatever looks big and pretty is good with me. I also love, love, love the smell of christmas trees!!!! It's one of my top scents.. anyways, after we pick out the tree we used to get to pick out a free ornament when we were kids, but we don't do that anymore.. so we just go back home.
One year our tree was too long to have in the back of the truck with the tail gate up so we had to keep the tail gate down and tie the tree to keep it from falling out.. so we drove home slow to make sure it wouldn't fall out and right before we went down the hill to get to our house, i looked behind us and the tree wasn't there.. and if you've seen Christmas Vacation with chevy chase I kinda thought of that movie and we seemed like them cause they had a hell of a time getting there christmas tree.. anyways we had dragged the tree behind us for god knows how many feet, and we got out and the bottom branches were all tangled and the tree was full of slush but we loved it anyway, it was kinda of battered but beautiful

Buffalo

So this past semester I have gone out to Buffalo 4 times to see my boyfriend who goes to UB. Before this year I had never been to Buffalo before in my life.. it always seemed too far away, but really its not that bad. And I also thought I would hate it because I am not a fan of the big cities and Buffalo is defiantly a big city... but to my surprise it has actually grown on me.
At first I was a little overwhelmed but I actually really like it out there, there is always something to do and there are two UB campuses in Buffalo, one is UB North and the other is South, south is near main street in Buffalo, near more of the bar scene and the college student thing. But its also closer to downtown, you can easily take the train downtown and be there in 10 minutes from South campus.
Downtown is nice too.. i mean its no new york city with everything you could imagine in one spot but I think its nicer, cleaner and has just as many things to do.
I don't think I could ever go to school there because the campus is so huge and the wind is crazy at all times there.. this past weekend I went to a rugby formal with my boyfriend and i was in a dress and heels and waiting for the train at midnight in the freezing cold wasn't all that fun but overall Buffalo is better than what I thought it was going to be.
